In and Around Thanjavur


Thiruvaiyaru is just 13km from Thanjavur.  The famous saint Thyagaraja lived here and attained Samadhi.  The famous and the great enchanting temple  is dedicated to Lord Shiva.  The Lord of here is called as Panchanatheswara.  In order to honor this saint, an eight-day music festival in celebrated here during the month of January.


This ancient temple is about 55km from Thanjavur.  This beautiful Thyagarajar temple is famous for its wonderful Chariot in Tamil Nadu.  This vast temple contains the hoses of Thyagaraja, Kamalamba and Vanmikanathar.  Lot of Bakthi songs has been sung by the Saiva Saints.  The pillars and the halls of this temple are very fantastic.  Thiruvarur Temple is also referred as the Sthalam of Prithivi (East).  It is the birth place of Saint Thyagaraja. << Thanjavur More Information >>


Velankanni is about 90km from Thanjavur.  This is a sacred place for the Roman Catholics.  Velankanni is a town which is situated on the shores of Bay of Bengal.  Their holy church (Shrine) is dedicated to “our Lady of Health.”  This church was visited by all the peoples who are having on the Goddess.


It is about 85km from Thanjavur.  Nagore is a renowned Muslim Pilgrim center.  There is a Dargah for a Muslim Saint which is enshrined in a ‘Beautiful Mosque’.  We can see seven plated doors here which lead the way to Dargah.  The annual festival called as Kandoori attracts pilgrims of all faiths.
